The scarf, which started out with very muted coloured evolved into a very autumnal scarf. I ended up having to spin using all the different fleeces I dyed last year.
It was so much fun using the fleeces (alpaca, merino, bluefaced leicestershire, silk, etc etc) like paints; mixing them and carding them into these gorgeous colours. And being able to spin up balls and balls of yarn all in one day. Oh I love my spinning wheel. [I just wish the kids would sop fiddling with it and mucking up the tension!].
For a while I had it hanging on a hook on the wall and it looked fantastic as a wall hanging. Even as I was knitting it I was imagining pannels crocheted together into a blanket. I love this stitch. It's so easy, but so effective, and perfect for showing off spun wool.
The finished product; a fall scarf. Long to wrap around the neck and warm. I know I promised it to Chelsea, but I've changed my mind (sorry!). I love that most of this scarf I took from the dyeing process all the way through to spinning then knitting. I adore the colours and as we have actually shifted into fall (this weekend just gone, can you believe it?) I can see myself wrapping it around my neck at the bus stop in the morning.. But fear not oh wonderful sister in law of mine, I will knit you a thankyou something, spun on your wheel (for which I am eternally grateful).
The scarf looks really lovely on you, and I'm sure Chelsea's will be just as nice! Sorry to hear Summer has disappeared, though.
ReplyDeletehe he he!!!! I chuckled through t his post! I agree you need to keep that piece of art seeing as it was carded, spun, niddy noddied, knitted and all that BY YOU! Can you imagine a blanket like that!!!!??? Oh yes i can! Id love just a small square to frame and put on the wall in those colours. Love them! You know I still look at the bird quilt with adoration.
