Dodging the rain

I'm back into full scale painting the last few days. When I can. Dodging thunderstorms and rain showers.

However, on Monday we took Remi down to his train in Brattleboro (which was 2 hours late), had lunch there and showed Matt around the town. We went to the amazing thrift store, "twice upon a time" and had lots of fun looking around in there

We even bought a few pieces of art in the very cool art gallery "Gallery in the Woods". A carved wooden crow (raven) and a Mexican fantasy creature (hand carved from wood too).

They we're both ridiculously cheap for an art gallery and will guard our house while we are away from it and be something nice to come back to. And they made remember about my lovely Spanish head I bought in Spain years ago who may be packed away in a plastic tub in the shed (who I must find).

And I'm trying a new iPad blog app so that I can post more easily and not be so reliant on wifi and going next door (yes, I am lazy like that), so apologies for any weirdness in layout.

  1. blog looks fine to me - though my screen keeps freezing... I love the 2 purchases - black birds very much on my mind at the moment since I discovered the French word for blackbird is 'merle' which of course made me think of Merlin. And the choughs of Pembrokeshire. The deer makes me think of Franz Marc's Deer in a Monastery Garden - one of my favourites. I'm trying desperately to remember the name of the Spanish head - Juanita? Carlotta? We still have Sheila, who was inspired by her. 'Twice upon a Time' is a fabulous name for a 2nd hand shop.
Hope you get some lovely warm paint drying days - and swimming in the river.

  2. Good to think of you painting, just bought 2 60 inch and 2 40 inch things and canvas for the one big painting I intend to do as part of my honours presentation...good to see you are buying other peoples art, no room at our bank for other people's art.

  3. Love your purchases! That old typewriter brought back memories.... but I really want to say: what a great name for a second-hand shop! I sometimes make a note of clever/appropriate names - hairdressers in particular. I love the amusing ones most of all, and the ingenuity of people amazes me. Happy memories seeing the river in your last post, Georgia. Enjoy the rest of your time there! All that sun..... our driveway was covered in frost Tues and Weds morning. xx

  7. Lyn - your comment reminds me of the 'Jolie Madarm' hairdresser in Launceston many years ago. Always made me think of a cleft arm frantically scissoring, bit like the Red Shoes dancing. Not sure that this was intended though...
