Sorry, I dropped off the end of the earth there a bit. I'd like to say that I've been working hard and have lots of creative things to share, but that wouldn't be true. I'd like to say that we've spent every night sitting out on our new outdoor furniture up on our roof top deck, but that would also be a big fat lie.
The truth is that the weather has been unbearably depressing. Rain, Rain, Rain. Rain all day, HEAVY rain on top of that (I think we had more rain in 6 hours the other day than many Australians see in a whole year). It is wearing very thin. The reality is that I spend hours trying to get washing to dry (re spinning in the machine what got wet hanging out to dry undercover as it doesn't just rain DOWNWARDS here), and some house work, and not much else. Except for Saturday night (when it DID stop raining for a few hours) when we caught up with our Cayman friends who were in town over night on their way to Bali. We met them at the Fullerton Bay Hotel....an undercover bar on the roof, looking out onto the water and Marina Bay (the boat on top of the building). It was pretty and there were lots of coloured lanterns for Chinese New Year that didn't get picked up by my camera phone.
And now we are waiting for our VT neighbours who we think arrived here today. They were supposed to get in yesterday, but were delayed a day by the big New England Storm. We are waiting to hear from them (they will be staying at a hotel). We also have one of Oscar's old rugby coaches from Darien staying with us for a few days arriving tomorrow, so looks like it will be a busy week.
The kids go back to school on Wednesday after the Chinese New Year break, and by break I mean the whole island shuts down.... It's like a ghost town out there. Remi's air conditioner has been broken for over a week, but we can't get it fixed until the 18th due to CNY. I bought some beds for the kids, but they can't be delivered until after CNY. You walk down to the local mall and everything is closed except for Burger King, KFC and the supermarket is open for a few hours every day. Caught us by surprise a bit.
