I'm on a bit of a sewing binge at the moment. I have been wanting for ages to do something with all the left over triangles I had cut out when I was making Ella's rainbow quilt. Here it was in progress.
I went a bit overboard with the triangle cutting (I was going to do a triangle border, but changed my mind) and so I ended up with a box of coloured triangles. They have been taunting me ever since.
I wanted to use lots of colour and white to make a very cheerful quilt. Of course I couldn't JUST use the same fabric as last time, so I've been going through my stash and my scraps and cutting them into triangles, then sewing them into squares- a rather time consuming thing to do, but I love the effect.
Here's Ella next to it to give you some perspective. The squares are 3" when cut.
I'm really happy with the way it's coming along, although by my calculations, to make a King sized quilt I need to sew 1780 squares together (or there abouts). And so far, there are only 169... I may change my mind on the size.So far, though, I'm happy with it. I love all the different fabrics and colours. And fortunately for now, (touch wood) my ailing sewing machine is co operating nicely. As long as I speak soothing words to it and sew really fast. I've no idea if it will be able to cope when it comes to quilting the thing, but that may be a fair way off anyway.
I also have 2 books to recommend.
I picked up this book a while ago and promtly forgot about it.
I picked it up again on Monday and by Tuesday I'd finished. There was a time in my life (probably when I was studying literature at University-but it may have been at highschool) when I became totally fascinated with Charlotte Bronte. I started by reading everything by her, then by her sisters and then biographies of the family. This book totally brought back to life that fascination. It is written as fiction.."what if there was a secret diary written by Charlotte Bronte that was found today?". But it really retells the life of Charlotte, written in a style similar to her novels. Fantastic read for anyone who loved Jane Eyre.
And because I enjoyed the book so much, I had to get The Lost Memoires of Jane Austen by the same Author. I haven't finished this, but I am once again so impressed by the way this author is able to capture the style of Jane Austen's writing in this fictitious book about an imagined love affair that Jane might have had.
Not difficult reads by any stretch of the imagination, but very enjoyable.
i love the white with the triangles... it is light and bright, so cheerful...but i know what you mean about taking so long to piece together... if you are anything like me and love to get it all done in a day and the machine packed away off the dining room table then that is not the quilt to start...but i appreiate the effort and the visual effect
ReplyDeleteOh, that quilt is such a wonderful creations. :) I love it, and your blog.
