Im-perfectionist

What is the opposite of a perfectionist?  An "imperfectionist"?  Well, what ever it is, I must be one.  It's not that I don't care (oh I care), it's more that part of what creating is about to me is experimenting, having a go and then seeing how it comes out.

That's what I did when I glazed my brooches.  SOME people might test glazes, try techniques on things that don't matter and then reproduce those effects on things that do.  Not me!  I kinda sorta remember some of what I did to glaze these-could kinda work out what I'd used if I had to.  I used techniques I've never used before and had no idea if they would work.

And the results?  I'm happy.
Then in typical me fashion I decided I wanted to add some gold leaf to these to make them a bit more interesting and special.  And have I ever gold leafed anything before?  NEVER!  Did I really have much of a clue what I was doing? Well, I got better at it (helps to READ the instructions).
But I love them, and it's killing me to wait the 2 hours for the sealant to dry before I can put some pins on the back (I'm typing this with slightly tacky fingers because I couldn't wait to photograph them even though the light is terrible today)
Now I just want to make more... Maybe I'll actually have learned something from making them the first time around.
But then again maybe not.  I think sometimes when I over think things, it just doesn't work.

Slowly getting better.  Don't know what it is about being sick, but I have been having SO many creative thoughts going through my head (just not the energy to carry it all through).  I sewed up a quilt top for Oscar on Monday made entirely from recycled fabrics and I'm waiting on delivery of batting and backing to finish it.  I have a couple of ideas for some new paintings, but I'll have to make up some more canvases first, and I finally solved a problem I was having in the quilt I'd designed to make for my bed last night...must be those sinus medications or something.  But I was thrilled to be able to pick up these little brooches today and fumble around with the gold leafing kit (which I bought yonks ago-I've always wanted to gold leaf SOMETHING!)

Only 3 weeks of school left for the year and then I can lock myself in for some full on makings!  YAY!
