potty

I've decided to have a break from my pottery class.  Partly the cost, but partly because I feel like I'm not really being pushed artistically enough with it anymore.

Friday was my last class.  I had to find something quick to do, something I could easily finish (I can go back to finish the glazing), so I decided to make some little brooches.  "Brooch", I've discovered, is an oldfashioned word in American, so for my American readers, Pin.  I enjoyed it so much, that I brought some clay home and over the weekend, made some more...I'll take them in when next I go to finish my glazing.
I also picked up some things I'd made and glazed-none of them I am very happy with...but I thought I'd share anyway.  This one I joked would be my urn to hold my ashes.  I wanted a specific glaze effect and followed to a T the instructors recipe and it came out NOTHING like it. Bugs me...it was supposed to be mostly blue.
This one I really don't like.  I lost the plot a bit when I glazed it (and to be honest when I carved it).  But Ella likes it, so it's hers.
This one, at least is functional, and I don't mind.  It's a fruit bowl-and as ALWAYS happens to me with clay, came out SO much smaller than I had hoped/expected.  That 11% shrinkage always takes me by surprise. I wanted a HUGE fruit bowl because we go through a lot of fruit.
And this one, I did ages ago, but don't think I shared.  I don't really like the look of it, but I use it all the time-it's so handy.  It's a berry plate.  So you can wash your berries and then serve them on the plate.
So there you go.  I'm excited about my brooches, and I have another casserole thingy to glaze too.  I won't be going totally cold turkey, but easing myself out...

  5. I agree with all the compliments - I LOVE the shapes; they are fantastic. Does the berry bowl have holes to drain the berries but not big enough for them to fall through?

  6. yes, mum, that's exactly it. I usually have strawberries in it, but any berries would be fine. It's very handy and I have to say that the red of the strawberries against the green glaze looks really nice.

Love the mushroom brooches / pins. Better than a snake ring any day... When I was a small child on holidays in Wales, apparently I was very keen on 'catching mushrooms' in the fields.
