Tonight we had curried sausages. Well kind of. It's a good way to make 5 sausages into a meal for 6. It was (as dinner usually is) made up in my head, and cooked in between dropping Kit to ballet and Oscar to Swimming, and calling Nanny on Skype and Grandma for her birthday-Happy birthday Grandma! Onions, celery (I put both in nearly everything I cook), the "holy trinity of spices according to me": cumin, coriander, cardamom, with garam marsala, tumeric and curry powder, sweet Italian sausages (they were in the freezer, and weren't as bad as I thought they'd be), yams, broccoli stalks, carrots, peas and beans. Good middle of the week food, Matt called it.
Actually I was thinking about dinner all day-what could I cook that was "blogworthy". Well "curried" sausages wasn't really, but it was quick which I needed. This morning I was up at school hanging art work for the student art show tomorrow, and I left school with a sick Ella. She was happy to lie on the couch watching movies and having a nappy with Lucy the doll (who sleeps with one eye open).
So I took that opportunity to nip upstairs and make some activities bags. Kit and Ella's martial arts gear, ballet gear and gymnastics gear ends up all over the floor. It falls out of their sports cubby and they can't find anything. So I made them some bags
And while I was up there I whipped up a quick little nighty for Ella's doll Lucy...a fun afternoon, but meant I had to cook a quick dinner!
That was fun and interesting trying to work out the best way to make a drawstring bag (Ella's was lined, so that was interesting). I love to have things organised. And I have found a good way to make labels for bags-I pinking shear my artist canvas, zig zag it on and then you can just use permanent marker on it. I made real tags for all our ski bags this way, but double sided them and put a button hole in them to strap on to the bags.
Oh, and I picked up some cheap old belts at the thrift store a few weeks ago- cut up they make great bag straps-just what I bought them for.And while I was up there I whipped up a quick little nighty for Ella's doll Lucy...a fun afternoon, but meant I had to cook a quick dinner!
I LOVE the pink and black bag! Wish I had sewing skills, because a few of these bags would be handy in our house too!
ReplyDeleteBut I hope the kids have been taught how to fold up their gi's so they don't need a bag...I'm not saying that the bags aren't beautiful but learning how to fold up your gi is a lesson to be learnt.

Totally agree with you dad, but doing something as complicated and requiring as much effort as that is well beyond Kit. A shove he can manage...possibly
