An Asian inspired piece, or perhaps inspired by the Eiffel Tower?
I was very frustrated this week that we were putting inprints of plants into pots (hasn't this been done to DEATH!). They all made wall hanging things with theirs, but I at least wanted something useful, so I made an incense holder.
This little vase was the firs thing I made, and I really like it. I have a thing for trees and birds at the moment, and I like how simple this is. Unfortunately some glaze got underneath it in the kiln (not my glaze) and it wobbles a bit.
And this little guy was supposed to be a whistle (once again, I was annoyed at this class as it was an activity straight from a children's pottery class). We had a sub teacher and I have to say he wasn't great. I couldn't really be bothered with making the whistle part...I fiddled with it a bit, but it didn't work, so I just made it into a little figure. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Took lots of risks with the glazing...but I like it. I would have liked the wings to be less of a solid colour, but on those I followed the rules...
I have one more vase that I haven't glazed yet, and already this session I've made two more things. I'm going to have to start giving it away. As you can probably tell, there are times when I get frustrated with this class. It's hard after having had the best pottery teacher and most wonderful inspiring artist. I also get frustrated that we only tend to do slab work. I find it really limiting. But it is great to be back into it all, and I am learning things.
And as for all the rain we had last week, and wind today...the trees are bare. It really feels like we are about to head into winter. The weather is supposed to get cold this week...and it's only 2 weeks until Thanksgving. We're going up to VT again, and the kids and Matt (not me!) are all kitted out with ski gear, so hopefully they'll have some snow.
They are lovely Georgia, and hopefully you'll still be able to express some of your creativity, even if the teaching is not as inspired as your lovely NY teacher's. Hobart weather much the same - it plummeted from 28 C to rain, gales & snow on the Mt. xxxx
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative. They look great!
ReplyDeleteI adore the tree vase! Still have my mermaid vase you gave me and I LOVE it! So are you going to ski or are your knees not good enough? Like your Mum said... snow! Been sewing like crazy making baby back packs for a Mothers Market that Sarah and I are going to. Should be fun!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh G everything you touch turns out so beautifully. Spinning, knitting, quilting, the cards, the mosaics and now pottery. Am I feeling slightly inadequate here - oh no I'm just going to drown my sorrrows in a bar of chocolate!
ReplyDeleteSeriously though - the pots are gorgeous.
