Another rainy day

with lots of flooding with the full moon, so we spent most of today indoors. Indoors knitting and carving pumpkins:

Remi, Kit and Ella wanted to do patterns from the book. I transferred the patterns then away they went...Ella and Remi with proper pumkin carving knives and Kit with his pocket knife. [BTW I found the best way to transfer the patterns was to make dots with a small phillips head screwdriver and then join the dots up by scratching in lines with said screwdriver. This was more sturdy than any of the bought pumpkin carving accesories and it also made it so much easier for the kids to see where they had to carve.]
Ella said to me "I feel so much older mum, and not just because I'm carving this all by myself". Oscar just went for it and carved his own creation. We still have a few more to do tomorrow. I want a go!
And here's the results
This one was taken with the flash on, but I much prefer the atmospheric, blurry non flash ones
Ella's bat and Remi's gremlin.

Oscar's wonderful traditional Jack O'Lantern and Kit's spider.

And a ghostly Ella walking down the stairs. Can you see her???
And I HAVE to show this little beauty that Ella brought home from art class at school the other day; it's a girl monster. Her nose curls out. We love her. I'm going to stick her onto a piece of card so she doesn't get wrecked.

Oh, and the knitting. Put the crochet away for a bit as I decided I needed a new more neutral scarf and bought some yummy wool which I'm knitting up as quickly as possible. It's very boring knit every row kind of thing...I did try to crochet it (that's my next thing, a crocheted scarf) but it's all bumpy as was just not showing off the yarn to its best. Anyway, Ella decided she wanted to remember how to knit and knit herself a scarf and so we've been knitting buddies. Which set Kit off asking how to crochet and how to spin....but I can't do all of these at once, so Kit will have to wait for another day.
And Sue, this week I'll post with my crochet patterns, although being a self taught crocheter who is very crochet illiterate, it may not be the proper names of the stitches. Usually I just look at a picture and try and try until I work it out.
Have a great rest of the weekend.

I suspect your Dad would enjoy carving pumpkins...what do you do with all the edible part of the pumkins?
