Went to see THE ORDER OF THE PHEONIX last night. I can't remember the time I went to see a movie and the theatre was almost full. It was great. And everyone was so excited. We all went together...picked Matt up from work and left Honey for the first time at home in her crate. She did very well.
The movie was great. I thought it really captured the feel of the book, although it is one of the longer books and the movie really had to skip through a lot of parts. I also thought it centred much more on Harry, poor Ron didn't have much to do.
I am really full of anticipation for the last book. I want to know what happens, but I'm also dreading not being happy with how it all ends.
I remember hearing about HP when Oscar was in Kindergarten in Singapore. We were a bit late getting on to the bandwagon as I remember thinking that it was probably for older kids. People kept saying to me that I should read it to Oscar, but as the mother of 6, 4 and 1 year old boys and pregnant I just couldn't work out how I'd manage it. But when we left Singapore and stayed with family in Tasmania before moving onto New York I bought the audio tapes of the book. My kids have always listened to audio tapes since they were babies and it's been a great way to get them into books, even before they were reading. (Oscar was able to read Lord of the Rings at 9 partly because he'd listened to the tapes so it was familiar to him and not overwhelming.) And so Harry came into our lives. We have all the books and all the tapes...we like to take the audios with us on long drives and let the wonderful Stephen Fry take us into his world. The kids have all listened to all the tapes and watched all the movies and Kit has just started to read the first book. We have all grown up with Harry and Hermione and Ron. And I truely believe that JK Rowling's success has led to a whole new wave of wonderful books for kids...the kids sections of books stores are enormous these days...so much more choice than when I was that age.
So I will be tentative as I begin the last book that comes out on the 21st. I have my copy pre ordered and I have bagsed the first read in the family (but I have to keep my trap shut and not give anything away). I just hope that it fulfills its expectations.
you haven't got time to read books now... unless you can do so while walking or even better running...if you are not doing anything constructive like walking with Honey, you should be walking with Honey.
ReplyDeleteand another thing, now you have to get a ute for Honey, and us dogs prefer it when there is another dog around the house, preferably a Kelpie, of course.
ReplyDeleteohh I cant wait to go see it now....
