slip slidin' away

Yesterday was father's day here...and stinking hot too. We started the morning by having french toast for breakfast out on the patio. Then I had to nip out and get some stakes for my tomatoes and Remi came with me. He kept asking me to get a pool...you know, one of those above ground thingies, but I compromised by getting a slip and slide. It's supposed to be 16 feet long, but Matt and I are dubious...certainly nothing like the killer that Grandad rigged up for them one Xmas which ran down the whole of their property; the kids were airborn when they hit the ramp at the bottom. But these 4 had a ball with it for an hour or so (until they were too bruised!)

After that it was off to watch the Dads play a friendly game of touch football. It was a bit fast and furious there for a while and one guy came off with a possible dislocated shoulder. The boys looked very worse for wear at 1/2 time, but after that they had Oscar, Remi and Kit on and the pace slowed considerably...much more suited to their ages and fitness levels. Then it was back to our friends' for a BBQ of course. We got home quite late last night, and the kids were pretty tired today...you should see some of Remi's bruises, and Kit was complaining of pains. Not sure if they were sustained on the rugby field, or on the slip and slide.
Only 1 and 1/2 more days of school...but who's counting???? I went to pick up our beach pass for the car today, so I forsee lots of picnics on the beach over the next few weeks. And of course more sliding.
******And I am well aware that these photos must seem totally scandalous to drought stricken Australians. After 2 years in Sydney, I still feel guilty watering my garden.********
Oh, and photos courtesy of Matt-I let him use my camera as a father's day present and, besides, I was too busy staking out the tomatoes.

I suppose you just casually took the car to get your tomato stakes but that is no longer news. Just what a soccer Mum does.
And our New Yorker calender says you are now into Summer! Well here very much into a cold Tasmaniaish winter with temperatures below 2 Celcius well into the morning... oh for the 40 degree days, probably only a couple of months away.
    love
    Dad
