Did I say ICE?

These first two photos are of ice on our car. The one that is almost a reflection is taken of the window.

We didn't get up to Ithaca for the snow, but the kids were out for a few hours this morning playing on this hill with some neighbours. By the time I went out with Kit (who has to be watched like a hawk as he is far too silly with his broken arm) they'd given up sleddin and were digging chunks of ice of the wall left by the snow plough and rolling them down the hill to try and make an igloo at the bottom. They didn't get very far with it as they realised it was just too much work.

I had a lovely time just walking around taking photos. I love the way the white glow everywhere makes me notice things I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

I love the shadows on the "snow". It's not snow really. After a reasonably mild day yesterday (around 0, but with some sun) everything melted a little and refroze. Walking over it is so weird. Most of the time I would be walking on top of it and then suddenly; clunk clunk my feet would sink down into it. Of course the kids just walk over the top.

Kit is so emotionally fragile. He can't do anything so he gets upset and angry with us and himself all the time.

Boys found a huge chunk of ice...that's it broken in half.

The graveyard up the lane...

The birds in the pond, huddling from the wind. And our house. Lovely.

The kids must be having such an axciting time, but pity about poor Kit... Can you ice skate on this ice or is it too sloppy? And tell the boys I'd love to see the igloo if they can take on the task!
