I love spring, especially after a proper winter. I love how you can feel it in the air even if it's still cold. Somehow you just know...and the animals know too. I've started hearing and seeing lots of little birds again. Outside all that snow/ice is melting and there is drip, drip, dripping everywhere. No bulbs yet, and no leaves on trees, but I can almost feel them growing. I bought 2 small bunches of daffodils for a school fundraiser and I have them sitting on the table waiting to open. Daffodils are my favourite flowers. I can't look at a daffodil and not feel happy. They are fleeting sign heralding the begining of spring. They are like the sun on your face. I just LOVE them.
And I finished my quilt! yay! The making of it really confirmed to me that I am not a sewer. (is that a person who sews or the place where all the stuff that goes down the sink goes?). It's the biggest thing I've ever sewn and it was a real learning process. But I really only spent about $40 on it...I bought the batting and the fabric was mostly thrifted or recycled. Even the blue backing was an old sheet we had from Singapore when that was all we slept under. Oh and I bought the binding and thread. It's a queen/full size and here it is on my king sized bed. No macro close ups on this baby as there are PLENTY of mistakes, but overall I'm happy with it.Now when people come to stay we will have something other than sleeping bags for them! And while I was doing a photo shoot on the bed I thought I'd get my ripple blanket out and have a look at how much bigger it needs to be. Not too much actually. But I've hit a wall with it. I have just finished off the last row for now as Kit has taken to wearing it as it's hard to get jumpers on with his broken arm. I need to wait until I have some more wool...I have 2 or 3 big balls left, but it won't give enough colour variation. So I've started working on my Granny Squares (LOVING THAT-photos soon) and then I can work out what I'll have left over. I'm generally happy with it, except for the double rows of pink right in the middle. It bugs me. But hey! I'm not pulling it all apart to take them out. If anyone is thinking of having a go at it themselves, you should go here for some inspiration!
I am becoming a bit concerned that our house will start to look like a country women's association or something with crocheted and knitted blankets draped everywhere, but I do so love to make them and the kids do so love to snuggle up in them. I'm sure that when the nice weather finally kicks in I won't feel like making these...that's the time to get outside and make paper and dye wools and paint.
country womens association!! He he!!! They are gorgeous. I love home made blankies...
ReplyDeleteIt's looking very cottagey! but that's okay, they are the kind of things that are good for throws etc when you want a different look on the bed! Matt must be confused about what bedrooms he's going into.
