coat

I've had a busy afternoon making this little coat out of my thrift shop purchases from this wonderful tutorial at this blog http://mollychicken.blogs.com/my_weblog/.

Unfortunately there were no measurements for size, and I started it while Ella was at her friend's house with her doll Lucy because it doesn't fit her (Lucy's) arms. I got pretty close...I can get it on, but it's close to seam splitting. Quite amazing that I got so close actually. And it's totally reversible and TOTALLY hand stitched. My hands are aching, but I couldn't put it down until it was finished. So I may have to have a go at making a doll to fit. It sounds ridiculous, but I have been thinking about having a go at making a doll for a while. It's also unfortunate that I don't have any more of the yellow gingham. I may have to make another trip to the thrift shop next week and see if they have any tablecloths I can use.

I have also noticed with this photo that the rose pattern doesn't go in the same direction, but I didn't notice it when sewing. I also made the mistake with the collar as I wanted the contrasting fabric on the collar. Oh well...I've made it once so I guess I can do it better again...for Lucy's sake. It would be heaps easier and quicker with a sewing machine though. (My fingers can hardly type!)
