table, vases and mittens

Here's my little table we bought the other day. It's really nothing that special, but it's quirky and fits the bill perfectly. It's small and has one deep drawer for putting all those catalogues in! This is the only nearly finished room in the house. The curtain is a sari that I (shock) cut in half and hemmed. There are two long windows there, and I love the way the light comes through the silk. I haven't hung the other yet as there's no rail...bit by bit...

And a little treat from the same room. When we moved to this house, there were a heap of vases left behind. I hardly have any so I held on to them (one can but hope). I've stacked them all against the window that looks out onto Long Island Sound. I love to sit on the above couch and look out the window and enjoy all the distortions. I have moments where I think I'll sketch it, but I know that it would be well beyond my abilities. I didn't think a photo would capture it, and in a way it doesn't as the sun isn't in that room yet...it's the most delightful afternoon room. And the wineglass I found washed up after a flood

Oscar has been asking for some mittens, and while the LOPI I bought would be perfect for him with its greys, it is just too thick to knit a pair of mittens without totally revamping the pattern (I did do this with the pair I knitted for Ella, but the it would be hard-for me- to make them just a bit smaller for Oscar). Anyway, I am spinning this red up for him. I bought it ages ago and haven't really had a use for it. I think it's merino, it's lovely and soft. One ball done. I think I'll have to put it with the grey there, but that needs carding and I only have a flick carder and I ALWAYS whack my knuckles with it. But with the weather as it is, it would be nice to sit outside and clean up that fleece. I bought heaps of it totally raw a while ago. I think I only washed half. Some of it is still in storage in Australia...and this I snuck in with my other wools (I wasn't sure what the customs line was with bringing in wool). My stocks are getting lower, although I have some gorgeous alpaca fleece that I'm dying to spin. Oh to have a real spinning wheel. I don't mind using the spindle, but it does take a lot of time! So if any of my family out there was expecting mittens for Xmas (not the best gift for an Aussie Xmas I know), think again. With all the spinning I have to do, I'll be lucky to get one pair done!

I love your little table George and the room looks like it will be reminiscent of the Sydney loungeroom. Good luck with the spinning! That is a beautiful red, like a deep wine.
