My darling little Ella woke up with a barky cough and sniffle this morning so, being the softy that I am, I gave her the day off. I think she and I are both enjoying having a day hanging out together...reminds me of last year before she started school. We have spent the day watching Charlie and Lola DVDs. I am an absolute fan of Lauren Child's work. Although I first discovered her through the Charlie and Lola TV series, I adore her books (and the Clarice Bean ones). I just LOVE the illustrations, and the characters that she creates. And the TV show is such a faithful reproduction of the essence of the books. The child actors who do the voices are simply superb! And Ella is Lola in SO many ways and she even recognises that herself...and loves it. She often quotes from the books and calls her big brothers "Charlie". I am so glad that I found these in time to enjoy with Ella (and the boys love them too) while she is exactly the right age. If you have never seen the TV show or read the books, there's a website at www.charlieandlola.com which even has some games. (I am giggling along with Ella while one of the episodes is playing right now).
And here's my little Lola who as it turns out is not very ill at all, having a thoroughly wonderful time colouring in her Charlie and Lola colouring book.
I did have other photos of my spinning to share, but I've been having trouble trying to upload photos to blogger all day and I'll just have to make do with these.
Charlie and Lola Im sure is better in English....Spanish just doesnt do it for Darby and Bethan!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beuatiful colouring in you're doing Ella! Sometimes you just need a quiet day together, a time to be still.
ReplyDeleteI am devestated that your girls don't LOVE Charlie and Lola, although part of the charm is the gorgeous child actors with their charming English accents, and I can imagine that would be lost in Spanish. Part of it too is that Ella is the little sister with a choice of 3 older brothers, and maybe 3 sisters just don't get that.
