Rainy day

I woke up today to rain. Not great when you are painting the outside of your house on a tight schedule, although we really need the rain up here as it's been a dry summer and a spring with little snow melt reducing most of the rivers to trickling streams (we've swum in our river once in early spring this year).

So I decided to paint my room. I had decided on, and bought a tin of paint a while ago. While I didn't mind the sage green (with cream trim) the room started off at:

(photo from before we bought the house)
I felt it needed updating a bit, especially with all the holes in the walls after the previous owners took out all the tat they had hanging up.

I had chosen a light blue colour and bought the paint a while ago, but when it came to putting it on the wall, it wasn't quite right. So I mixed in a little of the purple from Ella's room, and a smidge of the french blue from the bar, and got something much closer to what I had in mind. Sort of a warm grey blue,

It would have been a quick job if it was just the walls, but I had to prime and paint the trim and doors too, and shift around all the extremely large and heavy furniture in the room. At the end of the day, I thought "blow it!" and even put the furniture back in different places just to see if there was a better configuration. I am quite happy with the results. The room seems both bigger and, somehow, cosier. Unfortunately it was dark by the time I got around to taking photos, but I wanted to share.

The giant armoire in the corner I am trying to sell. We don't even use it. It's always really bothered me, but I don't actually mind it so much with this colour and in this part of the room.

It will be interesting to see what Matt thinks when he sees it tomorrow night. The kids loved it and came and hung out on my bed reading picture books until I kicked them off.

I have to admit to be super tired tonight though and kind of (maybe) hoping that the rain will call off the horse riding that Ella and I have planned for tomorrow...

  1. Just got back from 2 weeks in Darwin and Kakadu to 6 C in Hobart today. I have about 5 layers of clothes on, so didn't feel the cold too much until this night. It's really icey out there now and there is snow on the mountain. I feel a lot more rested and fitter though, with lots of walking, swimming and sightseeing. I will post a few photos on Facebook.

Wow, your room looks quite different. Isn't it nice to feshen things up and change things around? You are on the countdown now.
