Remember this? I wish I'd taken another photo from the other end of the room.
This is the room that Kit and Remi sleep in in VT. It's above the back, "barn", part of the house (where those two bits of ceiling pitch down sharply is where it joins). When we moved in I deflowered and detizzed as much as possible. We changed the sheets, took off the curtains, removed bed skirts and found that if we turned over the comforters they were red and white striped which wasn't actually too bad (and saved us some money). But it's really been driving me nuts- more than them I think. Kit's just happy to be able to watch movies in his room. It's a difficult room because of the ceiling line and the fact that there are 3 double beds in there. But the kids love the beds (they've had the cheek to start complaining about their beds at home), and it's handy to have that much room for sleeping. Last week I tore down all the wallpaper. That made a HUGE difference already. It's lighter and not so busy.
So now I'm thinking about paint (and lighting and skim coating a wall). Of course, Kit and Remi can't agree on a colour (Kit wants bright green and orange, Remi electric blue). And I have decided that for the most part it needs to be a light colour to kick back all those odd shaped walls a bit. With some simple strip lighting (electrician needed). BUT I had a bit of inspiration from this photo:
That one wall- the end wall where the top photo is taken from, could be a dark/bright blue. Personally, I love this kind of denim blue in the photo, but I got a few different testers today for us to try out.
Now I just have to wait for the weekend to get stuck in. I did also start stripping all that toile wallpaper in our bathroom last week which was a very unpleasant job (have I mentioned how much I hate wall paper) and still have one wall to go...planning to paint is much more enjoyable. Although I have a feeling I may get dragged off to ski as there should be fresh snow on Sat.

When I first saw the pictures I thought the second one was the finished job... what a fabulous job my Snork has done, I thought, but I suppose I will just have to wait till next weekend, or when I return from Tassie Art short course at least to see the real McCoy...our parcel arrived from CT...good fun.

I thought the same as your Dad!!!! I love the dark blue.. cant wait to see it. My kids would be jumping all over those beds like trampolines lined up!
ReplyDeleteYou've done well just getting all the wallpaper off!! It's going to look great! I'm loving the denim blue, I think the kids will too.xx
ReplyDeletenice choice with the denim blue and with that light caramel as a accent colour (maybe in cushions and doona covers...and throw in the some bright orange and green cushions to please both boys)
ReplyDeletecant wait to see it when it is done
Glad to see there's enough to still keep you busy up there in Vermont. Isn 't wallpaper a drag? And isn't renovating addictive? You finish one room and then can't wait to get on with the next one.
ReplyDeleteI like that photo you posted, particularly the design of the shelf above the bed, as well as the colour.
You're doing a great job, but I hope you enjoy the skiing as well. mum xxx
