An unintentional blog break

Wow, this week really got away from me. Things are in full swing preparing for when Mum comes on Friday. I had the landlord come in and fix a few things this week, plus an electrician to put in lights and new power points up in the attic. Nothing like having people in and out of your house all week.

And because Mum will be sleeping in my studio, which kind of means I won't be able to use my studio for 3 weeks (how will I survive?) I was also having a last minute blitz. I began a quilt for my bed (finally). I have had this quilt in planning for a year at least. I bought some fabric and loved it so much that I planned a quilt around it. Japanese fabrics. I had been a bit daunted by it really-I just didn't know where to begin. And then I read about the quilt-as-you-go technique. This appealed to me immensely as I was also worried about quilting a king sized quilt on my ailing sewing machine. So this is it. It is very random and kind of "messy" but I love it. I love the colour palette and the variety of fabrics. I will be looking forward to getting back into it in a month.

I've also been painting some masks. Inspired by an article in Martha Stewart Living magazine. They were made with crepe paper, and while I was able to find the plain white masks no problem, crepe paper proved a little tricky. So we painted them. The cat mask was just perfect for Ella and she wears it all the time. So much fun to paint. We're now planning her Halloween costume...A cat of course-particularly pertinent this year as it coincides with her Warriors obsession.

I also painted this one...not sure if that's how it will stay (which is why it doesn't have elastic on it and is sitting on Matt's face funny). I do like the idea of turning it into a bird mask.

While I had the paints out, I jazzed up Kit and Ella's cork boards for them.

And finally finished painting their room so that I could put them up on the wall.

And with all that creativity out of my system (and new lights and proper electrical outlets) I was able to finish setting up Mum's room and make the attic nice for her...

Of course I didn't take any photos until today which is really rainy, which is why everything is dark.

No, Ella's not dead, just tired out from all the work I made her do...

And after all that hard work we needed a little creative therapy...so we made a "welcome Nanny" banner.

This week I'm carding wool and preparing for a spinning demonstration I'm doing on Saturday at the harvest festival the historical society is holding. I haven't spun for a while, so I want to have a bit of a practice and make sure everything is working. I think I'll be doing a bit of spinning and knitting for the next month...
