my news

Ok, so I don't think I've spilled the beans to everyone yet.  On Friday Matt and I are going to a Gala for the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, AKA Fred and Mary.  My Aussie friend here is married to a Norwegian and his company has a table going and he was generous enough to invite us along.  We are getting picked up in a limo on Friday evening to take us all into the city-should be rather raucous with all the other scandihouligans as they are planning to drink champagne on the way in.  Then we, as a group, have a private audience with Fred and Mary before heading off to the general Gala dinner and dance.

Now, I should explain.  Mary, although now being princess of Denmark, started life as a commoner; a TASMANIAN commoner at that.  And for those of you who read yesterday's post, that's where both hubby and I are from.  In fact he remembers Mary from school and University (Tasmania is a very small place).  I remember years ago him telling me that this girl he went to school with was dating the prince of Denmark.  So the big question is...will she remember him?
In fact I am sure the only reason we got invited in the first place is because the story of Matt knowing Mary may have come up.  It should be a very interesting night.

Hence the request for the Tasmanian "national" anthem from my dad (who wrote it many, many years ago) and which got heard by my mum sung by some one else many many years later.  I think I may have to teach it to the scandihouligans in the limo on the way down.  I am sure there will be songs....

Now I just have to work out what I am wearing, how I am doing my hair and all that kind of stuff.  I've never met royalty before...

I will try and get the chords to the Anthem by this arvo so that Matt will be able to play for the crowd on the way into the big smoke.

Now is there no truth to the roumer (sorry can't spell roomer, rumer, ruomer and couldn't even find it in the dictionary) that Mary tried out VVD but it was a bit tough for her?

  5. My link to royalty was that I was in most of Mary's classes in year 11. That was when she seemed to be heading for a science career rather than law (or real estate as it turned out). She was nice enough, but a bit aloof. I was quite good friends with one of her friends. So as Chelsea mentioned, Matt found her purse after she had left it on the bus, and I gave it back to her at school. Trivial? Yep. - Dave

  6. seems anyone who is Tasmanian has a link to OUR Mary... When i worked in Catherine's Boutique and Mary was getting married to Prince Frederick Mary's sister and cousin(who lives in Launceston) came into the Boutique quite frequently and as they were going to stay a bit longer in Denmark ...they were looking for clothes befitting being in the company of the royals...naturally i helped them select those clothes....HO HUM....my claim to royalty small as it is.
