So I've finished making 2 different lots of paper tiles and have pasted them into their circles. All the tiles are 5 1/2 cm square (roughly 2") . And are made up of lots of different papers pasted on top of each other. Ella said the circles remind her of mandalas, and I can see that.
The blue one is huge and I'm going to need about a 54" or 56" square canvas frame to put the canvas on for that one...the other is smaller; I haven't measured it out yet
Unfortunately these don't photograph well. The the light tends to shine off them and you loose a lot of the detail- even worse with the flash. That's from the many layers of glue.
I'm really happy with both of them. This one really reminds me of the beach, the colours, the tones.
Some of the tiles close up even look like little landscapes.
This one really didn't photograph well, it's actually quite lovely to look at. It reminds me of saris, of Indian princesses. It has lots of silver and golds in it. It's a bit grungy too, like an old mirror... The patchy bits are silver (totally can't see that with this photo- I'll have to have another go at photographing them.)
Not sure exactly how I'm going to paint the canvases to put them on, but I can't wait to start playing around with it.
The one I did last year is quite dark, but I'd like to play around with something a bit lighter.
I think they're wonderful and having just spent a few wonderful days with the Gyuto Monks from Tibet and seeing their mandala, I'm very impressed that my granddaughter knows what they are! I'm sure Ella will follow in your creative footsteps. mum
ReplyDeletevery clever, but looks like art that is a bit hard for an artist I know.
