Queechee Gorge

There is a Queechy gorge in Tasmania and I spent a lot of time there when I was growing up, so we had to go to this Queechee gorge. The Ottauqueechee river flows through it and it's right over near the boarder with New Hampshire. It's billed as VT's little grand canyon, but that may be stretching it a little.

But it was great. We went just to walk down to the gorge, and after a picnic lunch, that's what we did. Here's Matt, Oscar and Remi on the road bridge that crosses the gorge.

The walk down didn't take very long and here's the view looking back up at the bridge.

It was gorgeous down there, and I loved the greys of the rocks and the water.

But Matt and Oscar decided that it was time for a swim...so Oscar went in in his undies...then Kit, then Ella and finally Remi. I did take their bathers to Vermont, but the 2 times they swam it was in their undies. The water was quite cool, but it was a lovely sunny day. They had great fun, not only swimming in the river, but playing in the shallow rapids.

Ella made it all the way across and then decided it was too scary to come back. She sat on a rock crying until Matt walked across to rescue her. He was very cross as it was slippery and it hurt his feet. It took a good 15 minutes for them to work out the best way to come back...and Matt got cross with me for taking pictures!

But they made up afterwards...

Meanwhile Remi had been off catching crayfish.

  2. I found your blog because Simmy is coming to me after you! I live around the corner from the Quechee Gorge. Everyone here giggles a bit at all the tourists staring down into it. One newspaper commentator wondered if perhaps it might be running with maple syrup--thus the interest :)
