The boy doesn't wear shoes

We had plans this week to get away...but on Friday night at the neighbours, Kit got a splinter in his foot. A big one, that went straight in. I've been trying to treat it, knowing from experience that often they will work their way out eventually. But yesterday it started to get really pusy and very painful. Of course it's under his foot, so he can't really walk on it. Meaning we weren't able to get out and do anything on the weekend.

So today (the first day of Matt's week off work) we took Kit to the doctor...the pediatrician that is. Who referred him to a surgeon, who didn't believe that there was anything in there (you can't see the splinter at all) and so sent him to get a CT scan!!!! So after hours of driving around and waiting in doctor's surgeries, we just got a call saying he has to go to a specialist surgeon tomorrow to have it removed as there is "a large foreign object embedded in his foot"...what I said to begin with. It's all covered by health insurance, apart from the $25 co pay I have to pay each time we go to a doctor. Fortunately...I have no idea how much a CT scan costs. Talk about over doing it. I said to Matt we should have just taken him to the same place we went to with his broken arm...like a non emergency emergency centre of a medical centre...we would have had to wait, but they would have just done it all there.

So now he's on antibiotics and will have this surgery tomorrow...we'll probably have to get him checked up on later in the week...so our trip away is looking like it may not happen. All because the boy doesn't wear shoes!!!!!!

I hope you all enjoy Matt's week off even if it is going to be spent seeing doctors etc.
