Kit wanted to learn to knit on the weekend, so I bought a cheap ball of acrylic and started him off with 25 stitches. He picked it up so quickly and has now done about 8 cm. I was amazed as he's the one with "fine motor issues". Later when Ella came home from a birthday party she wanted to learn too. So I taught her and she picked it up really quickly too. She's so funny when she knits as it becomes a story game (like when she plays) and she gets lost in the process ("he goes in the hole and swings around the tree and pulls the branch and then kicks off the leaves" and the like), unlike Kit who was all about counting the stitches...("I've done 150 stitches mum!"). Later Remi wanted to learn to, and I showed him. He did a few rows, very neatly but wasn't quite as interested in it as the other two. But me, I was so proud I was welling at the eyes. Kit and Ella both have big plans for their knitting...a scarf first and then blankets...I hope they keep it up.
The glorious differences between children, dare I say it, especially between girls and boys! Brains are wired differently aren't they. That would be Oliver (Kit's cousin in Tasmania) as well as he counts everything going.
ReplyDeleteI like the tree thing with the knitting with Kit...did you make that up? That will be great for his motor skills. I keep meaning to scan Darbys first effort but still without my computer. By the time Im done with work/kids/homework/dinner....my plans for a blanket have changed! So many other fun things to do. Still have all the wool....
ReplyDeleteOK Snork, very clever but let's not forget their front kick double punch practice.
