the highs and lows...

The aftermath of the weekend. Remi's mud covered shoes which weren't even allowed near the house. And our new dock/pontoon. Remi spent AGES tying it up in the rain and the flooding on Saturday so it wouldn't float away...not bloomin' likely at the moment!

And to show you the opposite of the flooding that I am always taking photos of. We've never actually seen the pond this low. It was nice to see the run off from the weekend rain coming into the pond, as the water is actually quite clear, and it looks more like what it is supposed to be: a river. The pond is only the pond as it is dammed where it goes out to Long Island sound. And it should actually be deeper. All that mud/silt/toxic waste is left over from when factories used to pump their waste into the river. It amazes me that so many birds live on it, and all the horse shoe crabs. Although the big sea birds that are live on the pond obviously find lots of shell fish to eat judging by the mess of shells they leave! Actually the birds all looked a bit confused this morning (especially the geese), and have since flown off to find somewhere where they can sit in the water.

And I have to say it was LOVELY this morning with the end of daylight savings. We seemed to have so much more time this morning, and it was much more pleasant at the bus stop.

Kids are counting down to Halloween tomorrow. Ella's class is part of the halloween parade tomorrow morning at school. Unfortunately it's only Kindy and 1st grade, so Kit will miss out. But I will take lots of photos tomorrow night, although Kit and Remi are doing rather cop out costumes! I have 2 more pumpkins to carve. I broke my special little pumpkin carving knife, so now I will have to do normal jack o' lanterns instead of the more elaborately carved ones.

Well that was a mammoth posting session this morning and I'm so happy I was able to get all my photos on. What a good start to the day!

It's fascinating to see the changing faces of the pond - but pity about Remi's shoes! Are the geese the Canadian variety? I bet Remi has a great time studying the bird life.
