So the kidlets started school today! We only found out for sure at 5 pm last night (after trips to the school nurse, doctor and back again) that they could ALL start. Yesterday was stressful beyond belief. But we made it and the kids went off to school (with hardly any school supplies) this morning. Oscar's bus comes at 7.21 and he has to walk up the street a bit, so he left here at 7.10. Kit, Remi and Ella's bus is supposed to come at 8.00 but was about 20 minutes late this morning...apparently that's normal on the first day. Oh, and it was 12 deg C this morning! A taste of things to come...
The boys were nervous but quite excited about starting. Gorgeous little Bella was scared stiff. It was so hard for me to just pack her off onto the bus and let her go knowing that she had no idea where to go or what to do at the other end. She fluctuated between being a little bit excited and saying "mummy, I don't want to leave you. You have to come with me." AHHHH! Break my heart! But I kept up-beat and tried to distract her. Fortuantely the neighbours over the back have 2 older girls going to the same school and they were on the bus with them and I'm sure they'll look after her. As soon as they were on the bus though that was it...the tears started to flow from me! (reminded me of you Chels!). I didn't even cry when Ella started Kindy in Sydney, but I think it was knowing that this morning was going to be challenging for them and I wasn't going to be there to help. No doubt they will be fine. Maybe it's all the stress of the last week or two (trying to get the immunisation records sorted so they could start).
So now I have the morning to myself...no idea what to do. Maybe I'll catch the bus up to Staples and go and buy them some school supplies!

Oh man, it breaks my heart just reading your post.... its so sad and hard putting them on the bus the first day. Yes I remember perfectly the day Darbs went off on the bus..... I bawled!!! Cant wait to hear how their days went..... hope yours went ok too George!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI started crying reading about it! Poor little Ella. Olle didn't cry! (that's how he wants to spell his name) They are all so courageous. How different from Roseville, where you were so involved - you'll have to find things to do with yourself now, but I'm sure the retail therapy helped!
