And for mother's day I got to stay in bed and read-lovely. I never get time for that. I finished "The Stepford Wives", which I started the other day. I've seen both movies, so I was really intrigued to read the book. And while both movies were partly filmed in this town, I have to say that I think it's the women here who run the place...not the men!
And on the subject of books-other books I have read in the last few months: AS Byatt's "Possession"-thoroughly enjoyed it, although all that poetry totally took me back to my uni days. I can't believe I did a whole subject on romantic period authors-most of which was poetry. I so don't have the patience for it now! I also read Kate Mosse's "Sepulchre" and went back and re read her "Labyrinth" as well. Enjoyed both. Oh and I also tracked down and borrowed "Stranger in a Strange Land" from the library. This was a book I read when I was a teenager, and over the last few months it's been playing on my mind. I couldn't remember the title or the author, but after searching for American sci fi authors, I eventually found it. Reading this book again, it amazed me how much I remembered from it-how much I thought I'd read somewhere else. The copy from the library was the original manuscript that his wife had published after his death. Apparently the first published book was heavily edited. It was brilliant. I so wanted someone else to read it so I could discuss it with them. Totally thought provoking. So now I have to find something else to get into...have to give "Carpenteria" another go, Maggie, although I really don't understand what's going on.
