worse than snow

yes, the kids are home from school AGAIN. Yesterday they had 2 hours of school in the morning before they sent them home, today the little darlings will be with me again all day- possibly Matt too. Yesterday I went round to friends' house to get their Merlin DVDs because it's not like they can go outside. Not today anyway. Because it's worse than snow, worse than rain even. It's freezing rain.
Rain that freezes on contact, building up a layer of slick ice on everything. Like this poor birch tree which usually stands up straight- not bent over the tiny slip of a driveway that we have left after snow ploughing.
In fact all three birch trees that we have out the front are bent over with their heavy load of ice. When the wind blows it looks like they are bouncing. I hope the fact that they are bending means they won't be permanently damaged.
I suspect there will be a lot of branches down before the end of the day.
And spare a thought for all those out mid west - Matt's been reading me news stories as I write of snow drifts of 10-15 feet on the highways. And lets not forget those poor Queenslanders in Aus trying to ride out a cat 5 storm.

  1. Not to mention the Victorians who have had to put up with bush fire again, and have lost their houses, or perhaps even those who live near the Darling and Murray Rivers still waiting for their floods to arrive, with a practice flood that has been happening for a month or two.
But happy birthday Snork, perhaps the first of a series of big ones for the next how many years.
    love
