Loving my leg warmers

We spent a day knitting yesterday. Ella finished something - a scarf she's been working on for YEARS...and then turned it into a cute little shoulder bag. She even learned how to crochet a chain stitch for the handle...photos of that to come. Kit decided he wanted to knit a hat. I gave him some BIG circular needles and he went at it. Wouldn't stop until he was done (a bit like his mother that way). He now has a HUGE hat which I'm going to try and felt down a bit for him...

And I finished my other leg warmer. Now, I know I don't really have the legs for skinny jeans, but I love that I can tuck them into boots. And these leggies are just perfect for the inside of my gumboots. I wore the one I'd finished yesterday when I went out to shovel out the car, and it was brilliant! No snow in my boot, and where my leg touched the snow, I didn't feel a thing.
These are folded over at the top, but I like them pulled all the way up to my knees too.
I am so enamoured with these that I've already started another pair... but this time I think I'll turn them into full socks to keep my toes warm too.

The pattern? Well I "made them out of my head" as we used to say. Double strands of alpaca and fisherman's wool. cast on 42 stitches, 3k, 3p rib for 40 rows. Then dec 3 p stitches evenly over the 42, once. Then make 12 more rows. Then dec the other p stitches so that you have a 3k, 2p rib. 10 more rows, then dec again to 3k,1 p rib. 10 more rows, then k1, p1 rib (without decreasing) for 10 rows. Easy peasy.
