Does your lounge look like there's been a wool explosion

No? Really? Mine does. I'm trying to finish off my hat order and have about 3 on the go which means roughly 18 balls of wool on the couch and the coffee table. Then there's my new project...

I got a call from a woman the other day who got my name from the historical society as she was looking for someone to "repair a coverlet". I had no idea really what was required, but said I'd take a look. Turns out it's a little crochet blanket belonging to an old guy who's been married 3 times and all of his wives have died (not mysteriously it seems, but tragically). This belonged to one of them and is very precious to him although not really very valuable. It's FULL of holes. Rather than repair it, as the yarn is just breaking in places, I've said I'll pull it apart and remake it substituting new yarn where the old is too damaged (for a fee). That of course meant getting out more wool, just to make sure I have the right colours. Of course I've already done 3 rows even though I have no real time limit on this project. See how I have skillfully cropped out said wool explosion in this photo- and that wood there, that's from our very expensive VT tree; it's been frightfully cold and windy this week.
But the best thing about it is that the little old lady who came round with the blanket is just gorgeous...we chatted for about an hour. Had some very deep conversations. It was one of those meetings where you feel like this person has been sent to you from a higher authority. Made me feel good all day.

  1. What a lovely and generous spirited thing to do - it looks pretty challenging though. I bet your lovely old lady is thrilled.
