Signed contract

This house buying business is so nerve wracking! So, we got the signed contract back today. I have to drive up on Wednesday for the building inspection, but fingers crossed that everything works out.

This is the house from the outside. Matt and I were thinking that we wanted to get a little chalet or a little Vermont farm house (in fact we saw one that we fell in love with), but then our realtor showed us this place. This is it from the outside.
It's an 1880's "second empire" (as in FRENCH second empire) house with an attached barn that's been converted. The people who bought it last have put A LOT of money into renovating it. It was offices and 2 upstairs apartments. They didn't re do the roof and that would be the first thing we would have to do as there has been some leaking. They did, however, put in a new expensive kitchen and re do all the bathrooms. They also decided that since it was a French house they would deck the whole place out in over the top French country style. I mean TOTALLY over the top. Right down the the cushion on the bed which says "my other house is in Paris". Then the got divorced- or are in the process of getting divorced. So the house was cheap. And because it was so over the top, no one has wanted to buy it. But as our realtor said, it's a sleeper. There is so much potential in this house with a bit of work (the expensive work has been done), and eventually we can rent it out or sell it. And we get it fully furnished. Fully furnished in VT means all the plates, cups, glasses, furniture, curtains, etc. Everything. There are some really nice pieces of furniture in there. And some that totally are not my taste. But if we do end up owning this house it will be more furniture than we've every owned.

So I'll share some photos of the inside later- I'll have to do it in stages so as not to overwhelm you!

  2. I think it's a marvellous investment too Chelsea and with a bit of loving redecorating in places, it will be great. After I got off the phone, I realsied that you will be able to have a stall at the growers market and sell some of your gorgeous craftwork Georgia. xxx mum
