by the water again
Last night we went to a concert in Brooklyn. We went with our English friends who are into bands. It was this concert series- we went to see Silversun pickups. Unfortunately the traffic was horrendous and by the time we arrived, had dinner in a great little pub, and walked down, we'd missed a fair bit of the band. But it really didn't matter. I've never been to Williamsburg in Brooklyn before- what a great area. It's kind of an old industrial estate with some old apartment living and new apartment living and it's really cool and funky and a little bit grungy. The park was right on the water. With the band behind us we looked across to the Lower East side- you could see up to the Empire State and the Chrysler buildings too. It was SUCH a gorgeous evening- really warm, but not humid. It was just a magic New York moment. Afterwards we drove all the way up Metropolitan Ave to Queens- we showed our friends where we used to live in Kew Gardens. I had to have the window open to get the smell of the city. Oh how I love it so. It's interesting that we live in such an affluent nice area with million dollar houses all on Long Island sound with good schools and where it is safe, and yet I would trade it all in a heart beat to live in one of those city suburbs again. The energy is so different. If only we didn't have 4 kids to worry about- I'd live in one of those amazing apartments on the East river looking over at the Manhattan sky line. In another life....But it was a great night.

A lovely Blog.
ReplyDeleteIt is why I do wait for our New Yorkers to arrive, my own version of trying to experience living in or around Manhattan...not quite the same, but probably about as close as I will get.
love
Dad
Hopeless aren't we? I'm with you both - I love any skyline but Manhattan must be the creme de la creme. One day, George...
