New work on old themes

Years ago, when we lived in Queens and I first started studying pottery, all my pots were covered in either mermaids or dragons. I love the sinuousness of both of them- how the mermaids float and the dragons wind themselves around things. I made many dragon and mermaid pots- both 3 dimensional, and drawn into the clay. Playing with the polymer clay, I thought it would be fun to revisit these themes. I roll out a slab of clay and draw a whole mermaid (or series of them swimming around each other) or dragon and then using a circle cutter, cut out the brooches.

I've really enjoyed making these- and the face. Some of these (and some others) will be uploaded into the Etsy store tomorrow: it's memorial day weekend, and we have a party to go to tonight.
