I'm not going to lie; I've really struggled this week. I just can't seem to shake this cold. Either I can't breath, can't hear or can't stop coughing. Either way it's made me feel very miserable and frustrated as all my pre Christmas plans are having to slide a bit at the moment. I did FINALLY get around to wrapping some presents today....I had to as there was no more room in my secret hiding space.
So I reluctantly dragged myself up to the supermarket this afternoon as the cupboards are almost bare-certainly there wasn't enough to make lunches this morning and I suspect the kids will want to eat something for dinner tonight. There's not much worse than having to go out in public when you feel like this.... So, I'm mosying around the supermarket trying to get the fog to clear in my head to work out what we need, when suddenly I did a totally double take- you know when your neck flicks back around before you've even had a chance to register it. This is what I saw:
Yes, TIM TAMS in AMERICA!!!!!! I don't know if you can read the fine print, but it says "Australia's favorite cookie!".
I think I may have stood there kind of gaping and with a stupid grin on my face all at the same time. I just wanted to share the moment with someone! And these are actually MADE in Australia! [For those of you who don't know; Tim Tams are Australia's favourite biscuit- and one of those special little pieces of home you crave oh so much when you are overseas]. As you can see, I bought 2 packets- the 2 kinds they had. I had to. But my dilemma is that 5 months ago I gave up sugar. Totally. I kind of feel like a "recovering sugarholic" and the moment I taste sugar I'll start down the slippery slope to needing to self medicate with hits of sugar during the day. But I SOOOO want to try one of these. Hmm. My will power has stood firm so far (although I could be seen sniffing deeply of the homemade mince tarts at the Christmas party on Saturday). These will surely test me. No doubt I will be forcing them on the kids the moment they come in the door so I can vicariously share them...I'm sure they'll hate that.
Good stuff Snork, but neither of those packets the original Tim Tams, rather both are one of the broadened range of Tim Tams that are now available.
ReplyDeleteBut don't worry the occasional Tim Tam won't hurt you. I have also cut down (stop)my sugar intake at the suggestion of my doctor, but even she did not suggest to me that the sugar used to produce Cascade was a problem.
That was a cute post....What a find, but what a disappointment that you couldn't partake in the tasting of your most favorite treat. Now I'm going to have to go to our grocer and see for myself about these Tim Tams.
ReplyDeleteha ha!!! I remember Pepperidge farm stuff...they do golfish right?. Mums would ALWAYS bring them for snack at the preschool I worked at!
ReplyDeleteActually the "chocolate creme"ones are the original ones, they just don't call them original -if you get my drift. But these are actually MADE in Australia and repackaged and imported- the real McCoy. As for the sugar thing Dad, with me I know it's all or nothing. Although I am saving my one yearly indiscretion for the Christmas pudding that I made (with Agave and stevia instead of sugar).
