the costumes

Ella has been thinking about her costume for a long time. Of course there was the mask we made a while back, but the forecast was for rain and I was worried about a plaster mask in the rain, even though it was painted and varnished.

So we had a plan B...a painted face. Now I LOVE to face paint, but I think it took me an hour and 3 scrub offs to get to this point. I just hate working with that awful greezy paint that they sell this time of year.

The actual costume: black tights, ballet leotard and cross top with a fluffy scarf tacked to it, fluffy socks on hands (cut out the toes) and feet and Kit's old ruined ballet slippers. The skirt- a felted jumper and the tail was a stuffed woolen tights leg.

Kit and Ella both told me how they love that we MAKE our costumes and paint faces rather than buy the whole thing. Made me very happy.

Ella particularly liked practicing her hissing cat face.

She was so excited to be going with her friend...I haven't seen her yet, I hope they had fun.

Now Kit as a punk. Perfect costume for him. I think he should dress like that all the time.

The jeans were mostly made by him already- he'd been wearing them to school with big rips like that. Honestly I've given up. We added a few most rips and lots of safety pins.

The T-shirt I whipped (and ripped) up with a few permanent markers, the wrist thing I bought at a Halloween store. The tie was an after thought after watching the Goodies Punk episode (we have them on DVD) for inspiration.

He loved his hair like that (bit of black hairspray)- every one was telling him he should wear it like that all the time. He's got too much of a baby face though!

We had a great night. Kit and his buddies went out with a couple of parents while we manned the fort at his friend's house with our host; sitting on the front lawn on chairs and handing out the candy. What a great neighbourhood. We met so many people, got to see all the kids in their cute costumes- some AMAZING ones (home made). Kit left with his friend and his dad (who's 40th it was) for a sleepover and Matt and I stayed on with the Mum until nearly 11. A fun night. Kit collected an obscene amount of "candy", but seeing as poor Remi was home sick on the couch, I made him agree to share his stash with Rem. Oscar came home from his party right exactly on 11 (his curfew).

And I got my extra hour this morning. Got up at 9:30...and it was really only 8:30. AHHHH. Looking forward to seeing how much light I have at 6 am tomorrow.
