Summer

We've finally hit summer.
Hot and humid lazy days when we wait for the tide to come up so we can go to the "beach".
Kit and Ella reading Calvin and Hobbs and Asterix for hours on end.
Inspired by their reading to make a "transmographier" (what ever that is- it required a sharpie and a box).
Remi on the last week of his summer math course.
Too hot up in my attic room to paint.
Loads of summer fruit.
Fans going in every room.
Thunderstorms almost daily.
Outdoor eating.
Sleeping with just a sheet.
Scabby knees from bike riding and bike riding accidents.
Dirty feet.

And yet, summer holidays are more than half way over.

Starting to get my head around a new school year.
Starting to fill out forms and organise doctors' appointments for medicals.
Starting to think about books and bags and other school related things.
I think it's right now that I resist the end of summer. It takes so long for the kids to get into the swing of just being kids; being bored, finding their imagination, their creativity, their companionship with each other. And just when it all starts to work, it's back to school again. I know some people think that summer holidays are too long, but not me. I love the pace, I love watching the kids rediscover playing, rediscover each other. The big rest before the craziness that is the school year. 4 1/2 weeks left. We'd better make the most of it.
