Had a lovely weekend in VT. Our GPS took us on the "shortest" route up through the Berkshires which was really interesting, but made it a really long drive.
We were staying in a house which belonged to friends of friends of our friends; with other friends. It was a great house, and I loved our room:
Rain had been forecast for the whole weekend, but we were really lucky on Saturday. We went for a walk around a big pond. Ella and Francesca had to bring their dolls. They spent all weekend playing with them together.
When the track got too muddy we went down to the little beach, and though it was cool, the kids all went in for a swim. It seems to be something that always happens when we go to Vermont-even if we take their bathers, they all go in in their underwear. It was Kit's birthday, and he was loving the attention.

The kids all had fun catching salamanders in the water.
We even saw a snake on the rocks.
The kids had a great time, although Ella thought it was just too cold.
Then we packed up and went around to our friends' house for the birthday BBQ. The whole weekend was planned around Nicola's 40th birthday, but they were kind enough to provide a cake just for Kit so he could celebrate his birthday too.
A fun night was had by all. We finished up (after taking the kids back to the other house to a babysitter) with singing songs around the campfire and getting home around 2 am.
Sunday was cold, wet and rainy, and a slow day was spent watching the olympics. Fortunately we got to stay one extra night as I had sheets to wash and dry from 11 beds!! We finished up with a bit of off season ski clothes shopping before driving home in the rain. It was an exhausting trip all around. But as always, really made us feel like we'd had a break. I think today will be spent doing more washing and more olympics watching.
