breaks, cuts, fireworks and things

It wouldn't be summer would it, without a broken bone? This time it is only Oscar's "ring" toe (next to the pinky). We were playing a game of family rugby in bare feet in the nearly dark the other night and Oscar whacked his toe. It hurts, and it's still very crocked (and he can't bend it), but he wouldn't let me take him to the hospital, and he can hobble around ok.

Then on Friday night (when we had our English friends around for a 4th of July BBQ), Kit threw a stick at Remi and cut him on the back of the head...fortunately no need for stitches-just masses of blood.

We've been hearing and watching loads of fireworks around here-our first 4th of July here (last year we were in VT, the year before we hadn't arrived yet). Honey was very scared, trembling scared when there was a big firework display nearby-she jumped the gate on the stairs to get up to where we were.

Today we drove down to Whiteplains to go to the Asian grocery store. Lots of fun. The kids get so excited looking at everything, while Matt and I get a little nostalgic for Singapore. We had some Roti Prata for dinner tonight (flat flaky pancakes that you dip into a curry sauce-a Singapore speciality; we used to have it for breakfast when we went to the zoo).

These are oats, with Asian writing and a Kangaroo in the front...

We had some egg tarts before we left. Remi wasn't too sure about them.

Here's Ella in another T-shirt I decorated for her-I've got better at it now, and will be putting some t-shirts and tanks in when I finally get my etsy shop up and running this week. Why this week? Because Remi, Kit and Ella are all off to Summer camp tomorrow. They will have so much fun, but will be so tired. They go from 8.30 to 3.30 (4 for Rem) every day and they swim, sail, kayak, run around, do crafts, go on excursions etc etc. I have all their bags and lunches packed and ready to go. It will be a bit of a rude shock to be getting up early in the mornings again, but it will be good for me to get some things done. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with Oscar-he was supposed to be starting to go to the gym this week, but considering he can't get a shoe on, I don't think that's going to happen. I suspect we may have to go with the movies a few times....
