recap

Thankgiving has come and gone and was a huge exahausting success. The clean up the next day was rather a big job too, but worth it I think. We would have had masses of turkey left over but the lovely girls who cleared the table for me know nothing about dogs and leaving turkey on the low table in the kitchen...took us a couple of hours of searching to work that one out.

Here are a few photos I took last week of some decorations. First my leaves. I had to take down the lovely Halloween decorations that were hanging here, and I wanted something else as I love to watch the play of shadows on the wall. I have also just been loving the autumn leaves this year. I walk into the study in the middle of the day and it is filled with a yellow glow from the reflection off the yellow leaves right out side the window. Initially I had wanted to collect a whole heap of those lovely leaves and suspend them from the ceiling like leaves falling all the time, but it rained and the leaves were wet and then the gardeners came with those horrendous blowing things and cleaned the WHOLE yard of leaves. It was green and just didn't look right. Happily leaves keep falling, so I grabbed a couple and traced them onto card and cut them out. I know it's nearly time for Xmas decorations, but I do love my leaves. I'm also happy to report that since Wednesday the trees have really decided to drop and the WHOLE yard is covered in yellow leaves.

And Kit's turkey which they did as a holiday craft at school. All the face bits were glued on at school and when he got home they had made a lovely gluey mess in his bag and fallen off. So I sewed them on for him. It's quite a cute idea actually and doesn't look nearly so much like a sea slug when it has it's face, wings and legs.

Oh and the most interesting thing about Thanksgiving was that we had a mini heat wave...it was 17 degrees C and we were able to sit out on our veranda and put the kids dining table out there too. But the next day the temperature plummeted again and only got up to 4. We had a lovely lazy day snuggling by the fire, but decided at about 3 that we needed to get Honey and the kids out for some fresh air.

So we went 'round the Cove and braved the bracing wind for a few laps. It was very cold and getting dark but we had fun. There was a big full moon rising (you can see it in 3 of the photos) which later on was a gorgeous big bright moon. I kept trying to capture it was the trees. So pretty. Any way here's a few pics I took.

Yesterday Matt and the big boys went into the city to watch a rugby 7s cup, but Kit and I are dealing with colds so we stayed home with Ella, knitted caught up on washing and vegged. Today I think Honey needs a trip to the dog park.
