Bad day

So mum left yesterday and I had intended to post some photos of her yesterday, but I was still feeling unwell and had another lazy day watching movies and knitting...before the usual running around after school.

Then today I had to take the boys up to school early, come back get the littlies off to school, take Matt to work and then go straight up to the middle school to help out with something. I had planned to come home, let the dog out, then go in to get a replacement license before going up to school to get the littlies for Kit's doctor's appointment....

...but driving into the driveway, I decided to chase the geese off the lawn with the car (something we do all the time) and some how I hit one of the big boulders that are around our turning circle. I only hit it with the bumper bar, but there was enough momentum behind it to flip the boulder which caught under the front of the car and lifted it into the air. I had already tried to reverse before I realised that my front wheels were in the air. Then I FREAKED!!!! I wasn't hurt at all. The boulder had lifted the car, and the airbag didn't even go off...I didn't hit it hard. But it totally, utterly devestated me that I had done this. I literally got out of the car and tried to lift it off the boulder as my only thought was that I had to fix it before anyone saw. But suprise suprise, that didn't work, so then I ran over to my neighbour who was a rock for me and came and helped me.

It took the tow truck forever to be able to get it off the rock as I had missed the limosine that the landlord leaves parked here by about 10 inches, and everytime the tow truck guy tried to lift the car it would threaten to tip onto the limo....in the end I couldn't watch. I feel so unbelievably stupid and like I've let the whole family down. And I totally rely on that car now. And I can't get a replacement hire car while it's getting fixed (the rock tore in underneath the engine and oil leaked everywhere) as I DON'T HAVE MY LICENSE. So I'll be on the bus tomorrow to get a new license. And Matt will be having to catch cabs to and from work and Ella will probably have to miss ballet...and how can I have done this???? Ella said to me; "you were doing so well with your driving and now you've failed" and that's exactly how I feel.

So it's pizza delivery tonight as I am totally exhausted...and back to cabs and buses.

Good news was that Kit got his cast off and now has a removable splint- he actually had a proper bath tonight and I got to wash that stinky arm!!!

The important bit--nobody was hurt--and it probably doesn't hurt to know that sometimes things do happens in cars that aren't quite what is planned no matter how careful...and a good thing, you're obviously not traumatised by the episode.

Georgia - it'll take a little time to get over it but you're certainly NOT a failure. You've done so well - really! Foreign country - wrong side of the road!! There are very few "new" drivers who haven't stuffed up in some way.

Read your blog regularly; like reading an interesting book. Don't comment much - my writing isn't very exciting. Hugs, Lyn x

OH MY GOD Georgia - you poor thing. It's just the sort of thing that I would do AND I'd be feeling just as bloody bad too. I totally sympathise with you but please don't feel so bad. It's just one of those bad luck things and you're not ruining everyone's life by having done it.

I did chuckle at the bit about you wondering if anyone saw - honestly I'm exactly the same. I also worry about what Tom will say if I do anything like scraping the car cos he does get irritiated by it.

My, I sound like a little girl when I do something bad!

  4. I've done much worse things with cars... what happened is a very small thing in the big picture of your lovely life. Don't worry about it. Really!

All the best, Hilde (now in Kabul)

  5. oops! Cars suck when you hit something! Dont worry too much. It will all be a distant memory soon! We had to pay a $104 fine for letting our insurance lapse 13 days! Opps! See, cars suck!

Honey, I'm so glad you didn't run into Giovani's limosine! So sorry that happened, but your judgement obviously was affected by your health, so forgive yourself. you were a very good driver when you were taking me around, you just need to perfect the art of roundign up geese!
