1. I wear toe rings all the time. I haven't taken them off since I started wearing them 9 years ago. I don't really love my feet, but I love my toe rings. When I first met Matt I would sit next to him in the lecture theatre in thongs (flip flops) and he would tease me about my "jellybean toes"...it's true; these are the only toes I can wear the toe rings on.
2. Still on my feet (kind of). I had my very first pedicure last week, and Matt's had more manicures than I ever had. I feel like such an impostor when I go into places like that...like I'm going to be caught out for not being girlie enough. I love that kind of thing, but think of it as a huge extravagance. I only used to get my legs waxed when we lived in Singapore and I was pregnant. I only get my haircut a few times a year etc. I hardly ever wear makeup, although I love being able to Paint myself like a piece of art. But my parents were against it when I growing up and I feel very self conscious wearing it around them.
3. I have 3 ear piercings in one ear and one in the other. I still remember getting my ears pierced 2 weeks before my 7th birthday. My cousin had done it a few weeks earlier (we're about the same age). One of the second ones I got when I was 16 on a break from classes at school with a friend and the other when I was 18 and in Norway. I love having them there, but I don't actually wear earings that much...I like ones I can sleep in.
4. I don't really like fish or potatoes...made a year in Norway challenging. Ella's the same, so I have no idea what we'll eat this weekend when we're there.
5. I cannot just sit and watch TV. I have to be doing something (unless I am so exhausted I'm almost comatose). I am still suffering terribly from the pain behind my left arm/shoulder and I was trying to have a rest day with no pain killers today. But I still couldn't just sit...so this little mouse was made.
I often make little things like this, and Ella runs off with them as soon as she comes in the door...they are little prototypes, but I'm not happy with this one's face. Wonder what he's looking at?
A little song sparrow's nest hiding in the tree...aren't those gorgeous little eggs?
6. I am the handy woman in our house. Matt is the weekend chef and I'm the one who fixes and make things. I'm not an expert by any means, but I'll give it a go. On Saturday, while our friend was here and Matt was making lunch, we put together this basket ball hoop. The instructions actually said "construction requires two capable adults". Pierre and I did a very good job but actually we needed Matt too...he came out a few times to tell us we'd put things around the wrong way. I was dosed up with pain killers when I did this which is probably why I'm getting worse not better.
7. I trained as a massage therapist years ago and was 1 weekend course and 10 clinic hours away from qualifying. I loved it. It's a very sculptural and artistic thing and it got me interested in natural therapies generally. I don't massage Matt as often as he'd like as he is probably the hardest person to massage as he is so densely muscled. Plus these days I find it stresses my wrists. But the kids love a massage (except for Oscar who hates it in any form except on his feet). The most frustrating thing about having pain on my back (especially where it is) is that I can't work on it or even feel around to work out what's going on. I'm training up Remi and Kit...Remi especially can feel the knots. Another few years and I'll be reaping those rewards.
So there I am in a nutshell. And as I am trying to rest this arm, I'll have a break from this blog for a while. I leave for Norway on Thursday and I'm hoping that I'll be in less pain by then...it's really full on when I extend and lift either arm. I know I should go and see someone, but I don't really know who is the best professional to see...a doctor will just give me pain killers (possibly anti inflams), the massage therapist I saw last week did nothing...maybe a chiropractor, but I'm coming to suspect it's a torn muscle, not necessarily a back thing...I may just have to ride the painkillers while away.
I'll leave you with a photo of my veggie garden which is starting to show signs of life.
I am not sure what this is all about but here are seven things about me:
ReplyDelete1.I don't wear any jewelry, lost my wedding ring after 3 weeks back in 1970, so that was that. Do (did) like cuff links though, they are sort of jewelry but haven't got any shirts suitable for them any more.
2.I do enjoy buying and wearing nice clothes, but nowadays not many chances to wear the flash stuff.
3. I probably should have been an artist but never properly got round to it in time.
4.Life without dogs would not be much fun.
5.I so enjoy making things, particularly out of wood, nice easy wood, the sort of wood they grow in Tasmania.
6. However, while talking about wood... while I consider myself a bit of a conservationinst very little really beats an open fire.
7. There are still an awful lot of places in the world I would like to see but don't expect to.
So there Snork, seven things you already knew.
love Dad
Have a great trip to Norway, and say hi from me. Wish I were there. But you'll have to come back when I am. Hilde
