And the damage by daylight...you can see the tide mark and just how close it got to the house. What amazed me is that apart from the basement (which may have been fine if our sump pump worked), the house was fine...all the water flooded up and around the house, but at no point did it come to the house. Makes me wonder if the people who built it in 1824 knew what they were doing, or just got lucky!
This was the last photo I took of the basement last night (bottom 2 steps covered). The water has subsided today, but we'll have to get a pump and get the rest out at some stage. Fortunately we don't actually have anything much down there...the neighbours had theirs finished and have a room down there with TV, computer and all their filling...I was up at 11pm helping them carry stuff out...not the best way to get over the flu!
And we are not out of the water yet (SO TO SPEAK!!!) as we have another high tide about to hit in 2 hours and already the water has broken over the wall...oh the joys of living by the water.
