I know I blog on about the weather here, but living so close to the water, we really see nature and its changes, and I love that. Yesterday we had masses and masses of rain. I sat here in the morning watching the logs and chunks of ice and snow flowing down into our "pond" from the river that leads into it and on out toward the sea. Except that all the previous cold weather had left an enormous ice sheet at the far end of the pond where the dam stops all the water from flowing out to sea. I could see all the logs and debris resting against the ice sheet.

This morning was so warm and sunny, just like spring and we went out this morning very lightly dressed to do a few things. We were trying to do it quickly so we could come back and go for a walk around at the park at the dam end of the pond. Matt didn't believe that there could still be a sheet of ice up there...he thought it was just the way the wind went on the water.

When we got around to the park it was packed with everyone out enjoying the "spring" weather. But the weather was changing and dark and ominous clouds were on the horizon, the wind had picked up and it was starting to get cold.

And this is what we found...

This is the wind blowing the melting slushy ice sheet up against the rocks. When we first go there the ice was still floating out on the water but while we stood there we watched as the ice was pushed up against the shore and we could hear the sound of the ice crushing as it hit the rocks. Here is the dam (and a very cold Ella) with the sheet of ice poised to go over. The wind really picked up and the boys were enjoying throwing rocks onto the ice to see if they could go through it. In some places it was still quite thick, but it didn't crack it just gave way to the rocks. Here you can see the clouds at the edge of the front...
Kit, Remi and Ella surfing the wind.
We didn't last long as it was getting far too cold. But at least we got some fresh air!
