The kids had a ball in it though. Kit was really getting the hang of snow boarding down our driveway with the neighbour's kids. I imagine it's like when they make snow at ski resorts (mainly in Australia). It was tiny little drops of frozen rain which piled up on each other...great for sledding on because they act like tiny ballbearings. They don't compress like real snow, so foot prints get quickly covered up.
But it doesn't stick to anything (or itself) so there's no chance of making snowballs or snow men. It doesn't even settle on trees .
And the little balls of ice just floated on the water gradually covering it all up. Some of the birds were standing on the shelves of frozen ice (in the background)...and some dumb kids I know had a go too!!!
Remi was so rugged up that he couldn't even see...
While Ella was happy being an Artic fox rolling around in it like sand.
Here (above) where the water flooded up onto the lawn earlier on. I was hoping it would freeze solid, but it was more like a giant slushy and has since been covered in "snow". I'm sure the innuits would have a proper name for it. Although I lived in Norway for a year and never experienced this...and they had lots of words for different kinds of precipitation too.
I love how the geese are like little icebreakers swimming through this icy mush.
And now we just have freezing wind, so I imagine all that ice is going nowhere for a few days at least. I have mittens and coats and hats and snowpants all draped around the lounge and infront of the fire drying. And at least I finished lining my hat so I will have a super warm head in Vermont!

Most of my USA students have been delayed for days getting out of their country because of snow in NY, the mid- West, Chicago and New England, so it looks like you were cheated. My Swiss student knows this kind of wet slushy snow but doesn't have a name for it!
