It's been a cold, cold week up here. Day after day starting off in the -12C kind of range and getting up to -9C or yesterday even -5C. I don't mind it really; the house is warm. But when you are out in that wind in the morning. OH MY! I guess it's because we are on the water, but the wind howls. It blows over our big heavy hammock stand and it forces it's way in through all the little cracks in this old house.
The pond has remained frozen this week. It always has a little trickle of a stream going out (it is tidal after all), but one morning this week when the tide was low, it completely froze over. I think it's very beautiful. And I have to be satisfied with this ice as it's all we see. Not a snowflake in sight.
And on a completely different note...I found this today by accident. For a long time I have thought that I was the only Georgia Mars in the world. I mean Mars is not really a common name and while Georgia is enjoying a poplularity now, it was positively uncommon when I was a child. "Oh, what an unusual name!", people used to exclaim. I have always used Georgia Mars to sign my art work (not my married name) as both an homage to my parents and the care they took to choose my name and because I always thought it was a one off. So imagine my surprise when I find a New York girl, living in Sweden using my name for her blog. I have to wonder if it is her REAL name.?????
I had already seen her art work and actually read an article about her (in the New Yorker I think)and thought I had told you that a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteFortunately for me, Dad, I don't think she is an artist...a poet, but not an artist in the traditional sense...hopefully there is not another one of them out there...
ReplyDeleteAnd no, you never told me about her.
ReplyDeletethe ice looks gorgeous.... I wish you guys would come up and enjoy the snow with us!!!!
ReplyDeleteIce looks gorgeous... wish you would come up and share the snow with us!
ReplyDeleteweird, Ive tried 3 times to publish a comment.....
ReplyDeletewell, you'll just have to get in touch with her and meet her. The children look lovely and I love Violet for a name. She pobably married a Mars- which is still intriguing as there aren't many of those either...unless there's a Swedish branch of the family???
ReplyDeleteP.S. The ice looks great too, but I wouldn't want to be out in it!
That is funny! I thought I was the only one - - - and I am really not one. It rhymes with my real name, and a lot of people think I say Georgia instead of Deirdre and Mars instead of Morris. It must be the Irish accent - slight that I have (my parents are from Ireland and although I grew up in Queens, I have more of an Irish lilt that a Queens accent. So it has become a bit of a pen name for me. Cool to meet you.
ReplyDeleteNo I am not an artist, although an aspiring and lazy writer. I am not craft at all, always been more of a jock.
