I can't get blue! I've given up on the indigo. First it came out the gorgeous lucious pink colour which I later found out is because I have soft water. After adding both soda ash and yucky smelling ammonia and trying again and again, the best I could get was the kind of browny colour at the other end which has patches of blue. I could possibly play around with it longer, but I got fed up and decided I wanted to use the pot to try some different colours.
The lucious lemon colour comes from onion skins mordanted in alum. Mmm that was very successful. The orangey colour next to it was the onion skin pot with the first run off from soaking madder and some of the boiled pomegranates. I am keen to do more, but it makes such a mess and at the moment I have a house which is so untidy. I feel very guilty and like I should have a Martha moment and clean with a smile on my face. But somehow it's not me!!!
I wanted to post a picture of the scarf finished. I do LOVE it and it will be the perfect length. But I thought since I have gone through all the colours of the rainbow I could put it up anyway...otherwise I'll just sit and knit all day.
The yellow is very light, and I wish I could have spun in some of my yellow, but never mind. I have seen a natural rainbow dye kit with all the colours at griffin dyeworks which santa may have to bring me for Xmas. Maybe I can get their indigo to work!
The colours look gorgeous!
