It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...REALLY?

Ok, so I'm really not sure where last week went.  I know I spent two days cleaning, and that the kids had Tuesday off for Deepavali  and Oscar got food poisoning, and that Wednesday I had the most gorgeous day with 4 other of my Singapore Gal Pals making Christmas cards chez moi.  What a fun way to do it! We started early, had coffee and breakfast around my big dining table, did some making, stopped for a snack, did some making, stopped for lunch, some more making, then afternoon tea before people had to rush off back to school for pick up.  I can't say it was the most productive Christmas card making session that I've had, but it was fun.  So fun, in fact, that I totally forgot to take photos of the event!

And to some of you it may feel like we're starting the run into Christmas early, but how can we help it when the rest of Singapore is decorated for Christmas and WINTER!, playing carols in the malls and generally into the full swing of it.

I surreptitiously took these photos of one clothing store at our local mall, just to show you the kinds of clothes that are in the shops right now.

I mean, we ARE in the northern hemisphere (just) and theoretically it IS winter right?  Oh yes, practically, it's still stinking hot and as humid as a sock in a teenage boy's sneaker after gym, but I do actually see people walking around in woollies and long pants and boots.  Even with hats and scarves on.

Our local mall has gone all out to complete the illusion by creating an indoor iceskating rink (about the width of a double driveway) for the season.  They are still setting up.
And yes, it is the rainy season, and that can be cooler (Matt and Oscar had multiple rugby games to play yesterday and Matt said that after standing around in the rain for 3 hours after playing he was shivering by the time he went in for a shower), but seriously?  See this guy in the big army jacket?  Yeah, the rest of us are in tanks or tees.
And I had to take photos in the rain because that is what we get EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.  at the moment.  It can be really hot and sunny (I went for an hour long 4 mile walk yesterday and felt like I was going to melt)...but then rain comes.  Getting through the daily washing is a bit of a trial at the moment, and I find myself constantly re rinsing and spinning washing that was probably dry while I was out but that got caught in the rain right before I got home.  And there is so much pollution in the air, that you really need to rinse things again.
So there you have it, "Winter" in Singapore.   Ella and I are having winter withdrawal.  We may have to brave the iceskating rink just so we can put on a scarf for a little while!
