Today was particulary Autumnal. Cool and crisp in the morning and later in the day cool and overcast. OOOHHH I LOVE IT! The leaves are just starting to turn.
Today we went for a drive to Bear Mt which is across the Hudson in NY state. We drove there to meet my Dad who had left this morning at 6 am to take the ferry trip from Chelsea Piers (Manhattan) up the Hudson to Bear Mt and then back again. [It's 7.13 pm and he still hasn't made it back yet]. He had offered to shout us all the trip too, but Matt and I decided that was just going to be too big a day for all the kids...it would have been UG-LY! [especially considering Dad and the 3 boys got up at midnight to watch the AFL grandfinal live!].
Anyway, I'm really glad we did. We took the scenic route there and drove through a gorgeous little town called (believe it or not) Sleepy Hollow. And when we got to Bear Mt. there was a big Oktober Fest thing going on there...complete with German food and little craft stalls. So we had fun going on the merry-go-round which had the most wonderful collection of animals, having lunch, browsing the stalls, wandering around the lake, playing at the playground and amongst wonderful rocks in the forests (the boys-yes, ALL the boys- had an acorn fight) and walking up Bear Mt....actually Ella and I piked out about 1/3 of the way up...I had the wrong shoes on and it was just too steep for Ella. But the boys (yes, ALL the boys) climbed ALL the way to the top. What legends! We were all somewhat shattered

ReplyDeleteSounds like a good trip and it's great to see some photos of the countryside. Is this still in Connecticut? All the kids look well, if a littled pooped!
Ah, I've never read the legend of sleepy Hollow...but the town looked like a lovely place to live. Mum, it was in NY...over the other side of the Hudson.
